While I kept getting messages on my iPad, even after I traded in my iPhone 5 (and had to ultimately deactivate iMessage to stop receiving messages that should have filtered through to my Nexus 5), you may find there are a few problems with iMessage. I must warn you, however: iMessages between your iPhone and iPad may not sync the way you want them to. If you do, the number will no longer be tied to your iPhone – and you may have trouble sending iMessages on your iPad. Do not deactivate your iPhone, even if it stands to corrode. If you go into your settings again, then scroll down to FaceTime, you’ll find a page where it says at the top, “Your phone number and/or email address will be shared with people you call.” If your phone number is listed there (or you add it there), you should be able to get FaceTime calls – provided your phone number is still active and yours. Keep in mind that FaceTime works the same way.

If you get to this page and see your phone number, go ahead and place a check beside the number if it isn’t checked already. Step 3: You will arrive at a page that shows your Apple ID as well as the section titled “You can be reached by iMessage at.” When I owned my iPhone 5, this section contained my T-Mobile phone number. Step 2: You should see a section that says “Send & Receive.” You want to select this option to modify the current settings in place so that your iPad will receive your texts when sent from those in your contacts. Step 1: Visit your Settings, then scroll down to “Messages.” The following steps will help you link your iPhone and iPad to help you retrieve messages. With this said, you can link your iPhone and iPad to each other, but to do it, you’ll have to tie your iPad to your current iPhone phone number. I noticed how well this process worked when, after switching from an iPhone 5 to a Nexus 5 with T-Mobile, I would text from my new Nexus 5 but the responses would all go to my iPad – not my new Nexus 5.

I owned an iPhone 5 and traded in it to my local Verizon retail store three months ago. I have an experience of my own by which to prove that you can link your iDevices.
